Bengaluru: A junior engineer of the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has been accused of providing water and sanitary services to some industries in Peenya without collecting pro-rata and betterment charges. After the complaint was filed, the BWSSB initiated an inquiry and transferred the engineer.
According to the complaint filed by Marilingegowda Mali Patil, a resident of the area, the engineers laid water and sanitary lines on 10th Cross Road in Peenya 2nd stage where there are over a dozen industries. The work, costing not less than Rs 20 lakh, was taken up without the approval of high-ups in the BWSSB.
Interestingly, the work was taken up right next to BWSSB’s sub-station located in Peenya Dasarahalli. While the BWSSB ordered the probe in February 2023, the team is yet to hand over the report. When called, the engineer said the report would be submitted in two days.
Complainant Patil said the engineers have caused a loss of at least Rs 1 crore to the BWSSB by allowing the industries to get water and sanitary services without paying any charges. “This is a criminal offence but the BWSSB has only transferred the concerned engineer,” he said.
The complaint also mentions that the engineer concerned, Sudarshan, also shifted a water line from private property without the approval of the BWSSB higher-ups.
