Heavy rains, waterlogging and landslide hit Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Many parts of southern and northern Kerala experienced waterlogging on roads and in houses due to heavy rains during the late hours of Monday. A landslide was also reported in Idukki on Tuesday.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) sounded a yellow alert in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kottayam and Palakkad districts on Tuesday. Water-logging was reported from Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode districts.

About one acre of agricultural land suffered damage at Nedumgandam in Idukki during the early hours of Tuesday. No casualty was reported. However, people in the region have been shifted to safe places.

The IMD had already announced the onset of the northeast monsoon in the state
